Outreach and Community Engagement Coordinator
Alyssa was born and raised in Staten Island, New York, and graduated from the College of Staten Island with a Bachelors of Science in Communications with a concentration in Media Studies. Alyssa was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD when she was 18. Once she was able to understand why reading and writing were so challenging to her, Alyssa contacted Eye to Eye to get involved and make a difference in the LD community. She was a media intern, mentor, and diplomat with Eye to Eye. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, photography, and spending time with friends and family.
"If someone slams the door in your face, go through the window. If the window is locked, go through the back door. If the back door is closed, climb on the roof and find your way in through the attic. There is a way to your goal. Just figure out how to get there." —Tyra Banks.
WHY THIS WORK IS IMPORTANT TO ME
When I was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD at the age of 18, I thought having a learning difference was negative. Eye to Eye helped to change my perspective and realize what a benefit my LD/ADHD was. When I finally felt empowered, I was able to excel as a student. I am so excited to help other members of the LD/ADHD community to realize their full potential.
FAVORITE PART OF MY JOB
Being surround by a community of like-minded individuals and helping other members of the LD/ADHD community come to realize the benefit of their LD/ADHD is my favorite part about working with Eye to Eye!
