WHY THIS WORK IS IMPORTANT TO ME
At 16, my brother dropped out of high school after struggling in the traditional K-12 setting. He was diagnosed with ADHD in elementary school but was never taught self-advocacy skills and lacked the support that could lead to developing strategies to succeed in the classroom. Instead, he faced disciplinary action and was made to feel like a failure for not thriving in a structured, rigid environment.
My brother is now 31 years old and completing his first year of nursing school. He received a merit scholarship to fund his second year, while actively advocating for himself and finding ways to incorporate his unique learning style and approach into his education. I can only imagine how different his educational journey would have been had he had the support of a mentor who could relate to him when he was younger. I am proud to serve in an organization that ensures hundreds of LD students across the country have Eye to Eye Mentors who support their learning and growth.
FAVORITE PART OF MY JOB
It is powerful to see the tangible impact of our programs each day for different learners and learners within the national education system. I'm equally excited by the opportunity to live our mission every day within our internal operations at Eye to Eye, by fostering a culture here where different learners thrive in the workplace as well.
