Bring students with LD / ADHD together in a mentoring relationship, and their lives can change forever. Bring over 150 of them together in one place, and the whole world can change.
Incredibly positive energy. A shared sense of community. Self-acceptance and acceptance of others. Personal growth. These outcomes and more are the product of the Eye to Eye Young Leaders Organizing Institute, our annual training conference for college and high school student Chapter Leaders held at Brown University.
WHAT IS IT?
The Young Leaders Organizing Institute (or OI as we call it) is a four-day celebration that helps our Chapter Leaders build leadership and empowerment skills through workshops, lectures, activities, and community fun led by our highly-trained National Program Coordinators. Eye to Eye also brings in speakers to lead sessions on identifying leadership styles, self-acceptance and talking about LD / ADHD, understanding Special Education, LD / ADHD issues, and more.
WHAT DO CHAPTER LEADERS TAKE HOME?
The OI concludes with the development of an "action plan" for each chapter, outlining a Mentor recruitment plan, roles and responsibilities for each Chapter Leader, a calendar of important events, and the art curriculum for the upcoming fall semester. Chapter Leaders are also given access to a database of customizable materials to use throughout the year. Chapter Leaders are provided with a Chapter Binder to bring to each art room, which includes materials for Mentee attendance, sign-out procedures, and important Mentee and Mentor parent/guardian contact information. Eye to Eye's executive team supervises and supports Chapter Leaders through constant communication by site visits, Skype, phone, and email as they implement their action plan in the fall months after the OI.
AND WHAT DO CHAPTER LEADERS GIVE EACH OTHER?
In a word, everything. Friends become like family, and Chapter Leaders remark at what a life-changing experience it is to work alongside over one hundred individuals just like themselves. Everyone celebrates their unique differences while sharing the desire to make life better for every member of society labeled with LD / ADHD.
